چکیده

aerobic andmicroaerobic conditions. Our data revealed that the cbb3-type oxidase is the major terminal oxidase under aerobic conditions while both cbb3-type and bd-type oxidases are involved in respiration at low-O2 tensions. On the contrary, the low O2-affinity A-type cytochrome c oxidasewas not detected in our experimental conditions even under aerobic conditions and would therefore not be required for aerobic respiration in S oneidensisMR-1. In addition, the deduced amino acid sequence suggests that the A-type cytochrome c oxidase is a ccaa3-type oxidase since an uncommon extra-C terminal domain contains two c-type heme-binding motifs, an uncommon feature among A-type oxidases.

Comparisons of subunit 5A and 5B isoenzymes of yeast cytochrome c oxidase

Subunit 5 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cytochrome c oxidase (CcO) is essential for assembly and has two isoforms, 5A and 5B. 5A is expressed under normoxic conditions, whereas 5B is expressed at very low oxygen tensions. As a consequence, COX5A-deleted strains (Δcox5A) have no or only low levels of CcO under normoxic conditions rendering them respiratory deficient. Previous studies have reported...

Molecular Characterization and Phylogeny Analysis Based on Sequences of Cytochrome Oxidase gene From Hemiscorpius lepturus of Iran

Abstract: Background: Hemiscorpius lepturus is a medically important scorpion found along the Iranian borders, especially near to Khuzestan Province in the south-west of Iran. This is the only non-buthid scorpion which is potentially lethal in southern Iran and is responsible for severe dermonecrotic scorpionism. OBJECTIVES: In this study, DNA fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase ...

Identification of Intracellular Sources Responsible for Endogenous Reactive Oxygen Species Formation

The endogenous reactive oxygen species ("ROS") formation is associated with many pathologic states such as inflammatory diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, brain and heart ischemic injuries, cancer, and aging. The purpose of this study was to investigate the endogenous sources for "ROS" formation in intact isolated rat hepatocytes, in particular, peroxisomal oxidases, monoamine oxidase, xanth...

Downregulation of diaphragm electron transport chain and glycolytic enzyme gene expression in sepsis.

Cellular energy metabolism is altered in sepsis as a consequence of dysfunction of mitochondrial electron transport and glycolytic pathways. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether sepsis is associated with compensatory increases in gene expression of electron transport chain and glycolytic pathway proteins or, alternatively, whether gene expression decreases in sepsis, contri...
